Day 1: Arusha to Lake Eyasi – Immersing in Hadzabe Culture
Your journey begins early in the morning as you depart from Arusha and head towards Lake Eyasi, a remote and stunning area that is home to the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. The drive takes approximately five to six hours, passing through scenic landscapes and small villages along the way. Upon arrival, you will meet the Hadzabe people and get an introduction to their unique way of life.
In the afternoon, you will engage in various cultural activities, including learning about their traditional hunting techniques, fire-making skills, and gathering methods. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Datoga blacksmiths, who craft weapons, jewelry, and tools using age-old methods. After a day of cultural immersion, you will settle into a budget-friendly campsite or lodge near Lake Eyasi, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay under the starlit African sky.

Day 2: Morning Hunt with the Hadzabe – Return to Arusha
You will wake up before dawn to join the Hadzabe hunters on their daily hunt. This is a rare and fascinating experience, as you witness firsthand how they track and hunt small game using handmade bows and arrows. The Hadzabe rely on their deep knowledge of the land and wildlife for survival, and you will learn about their tracking skills, foraging techniques, and natural medicine.
After the hunt, you will return to their village, where the Hadzabe will demonstrate their traditional dances, songs, and storytelling, giving you a deeper understanding of their culture and traditions. By mid-morning, you will bid farewell to the Hadzabe and begin your journey back to Arusha, with a stop for lunch along the way. You will arrive in the late afternoon, marking the end of an unforgettable cultural safari experience with one of Africa’s most ancient tribes.
