How to Prepare for a Safari in Tanzania

By Tanzania Songbirds Safaris

Planning a safari in Tanzania is an exciting experience. From breathtaking landscapes to incredible wildlife encounters, your journey will be unforgettable. But before you set off, proper preparation is essential to ensure a smooth and enjoyable adventure.

At Tanzania Songbirds Safaris, we’ve outlined everything you need to know to get ready for your safari.

Flights to Tanzania

Tanzania has three main international airports:

  • Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
  • Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR)
  • Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ)

For most safaris in Northern Tanzania, flying into Kilimanjaro International Airport is the best option. It is located close to Arusha, the main safari hub.

👉 Once you book your flight, Tanzania Songbirds Safaris will arrange a comfortable airport pickup and transfer to your hotel.

Essential Travel Documents

Passport

  • Must be valid for at least 6 months after arrival
  • Should have 3–4 blank pages
  • Carry a photocopy as backup

Vaccinations

  • Yellow Fever vaccine may be required if traveling from high-risk countries
  • Keep your vaccination certificate with you

It’s also wise to consult your doctor for additional recommended vaccines.

Visa

Most travelers need a visa to enter Tanzania.

Options:

  • Apply online via e-visa
  • Get visa on arrival

We recommend applying online to save time at the airport.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is strongly recommended and sometimes required, especially for trips like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
