Overview
Standing proudly at an elevation of 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is not only the highest mountain in Africa, but also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Rising majestically above the savannahs of northern Tanzania, Kilimanjaro is the crown jewel of Kilimanjaro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the continent’s most iconic landmarks. This mighty mountain, with its snow-capped peak and distinct ecological zones, attracts trekkers, adventurers, and nature lovers from all corners of the globe.
Located approximately 128 kilometers from Arusha, the park is easily accessible by road, taking around 2 to 3 hours by car. It’s also near the bustling town of Moshi, making it a convenient starting point for most climbers. Kilimanjaro is more than just a climb — it’s a journey through five different climate zones, from lush rainforest to alpine desert, culminating in a glacial summit.
