The 6-Day Lemosho Route is the ultimate challenge for the physically fit and time-conscious mountaineer. While Lemosho is traditionally a longer trail, this condensed 6-day version focuses on high-efficiency movement and rapid altitude gain. It offers the unparalleled beauty of the Western rainforest and the Shira Plateau but requires a strong physical foundation due to the accelerated pace. This itinerary is designed for those who possess previous high-altitude experience or exceptional cardiovascular fitness, providing a professional and direct line to the “Roof of Africa” without compromising on the spectacular scenery of the southern circuit.

Your journey begins with a professional orientation at your hotel in Moshi. Our Lead Expedition Guides will conduct a Critical Gear & Safety Audit. Given the condensed nature of this 6-day climb, this briefing focuses heavily on altitude physiology, the importance of “Active Recovery,” and the specific pacing required to maintain high oxygen saturation levels throughout the rapid ascent.
Following a scenic drive to the Lemosho Gate, we begin our trek through the pristine, moss-draped montane rainforest. This ecosystem is a vibrant sanctuary for Blue Monkeys and the magnificent Black and White Colobus. The trail winds through ancient ferns and towering hardwood trees, leading us to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, where the jungle canopy provides a dense and humid atmosphere for our first night.
Today is a demanding day with significant elevation gain. We leave the forest and ascend through the Giant Heather zone, climbing a steep ridge that leads onto the Shira Plateau. We bypass Shira 1 and push directly across the plateau’s volcanic landscape to Shira 2 Camp. This camp offers spectacular, unobstructed views of the glaciers on the Western Breach and the vast plains below.
We continue our eastward trek, entering the semi-desert zone. Today’s highlights include the ascent to Lava Tower ($4,630\text{m}$), a massive volcanic landmark. This “Climb High, Sleep Low” tactic is vital for your success. After lunch at the tower, we descend into the Great Barranco Valley, a landscape famous for its prehistoric Giant Senecios and dramatic cliff faces.
We begin with the exhilarating scramble up the Great Barranco Wall. This non-technical climb offers the best views on the mountain. We then traverse the Karanga Valley and continue our ascent through the alpine desert to Barafu Camp (Ice Camp). This is our final high-altitude base. We will have an early dinner and conduct a final “Summit Strategy” briefing before resting for the midnight push.
The Defining Moment. At midnight, we begin our ascent by headlamp over frozen volcanic scree. We reach Stella Point at dawn, followed by the final walk to Uhuru Peak ($5,895\text{m}$)—the Roof of Africa. After celebrating your achievement, we begin the long descent to Mweka Camp, where the thicker air allows for a deep, restorative sleep after your triumphant day.
After a celebratory mountain breakfast, we descend through the lush rainforest to the Mweka Gate. You will sign the official register and receive your Gold Summit Certificate. Our vehicle will be waiting to transport you back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and a celebratory dinner with your team.
